Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Contract: Full time, 40 hours per week, permanent
A well-established design & manufacturing company operating for over 40 years. From servicing and upgrading “worn out” machinery in the food industry and bespoke processing lines for the chilled foods sector and injection systems. The company is located in Stockport in the North West of England, only a 15-minute drive from Manchester Airport.
We are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.
The Role:
You will quickly be a key member of the technical team where you will manage specialist design projects from concept to completion, having full involvement from technical consultation and customer interaction, right through to producing detailed designs and overseeing projects through manufacturing.
This role would suit a mechanical design engineer from a manufacturing background looking for a challenging and varied role with further development on offer.
What we need from you:
Essential Criteria
*
Full accountability for the design of customer specific projects and other mission critical projects
*
Lead management of mechanical designers including review and approval of designs
*
Lead regular design meetings with team and provide effective communication and change management
*
Provide support to the technical strategy
*
Provide engineering support throughout project to installation, providing design input to proactively resolve problems and support commissioning & installation works
*
Provide engineering support to maintain technical audit trail through design, procurement, installation and commissioning stages
*
Successful project delivery with high-quality design, completed on time and on budget
*
Effectively resolve design challenges
*
Proactive communication with Design Project Manager – ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
*
Accepted as design lead & management of mechanical design from customer requirements to final assembly
*
Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering i.e. BEng / MEng
*
SolidWorks 3D CAD software, knowledge of SolidWorks PDM Vaults
*
Detailed knowledge of principles of Mechanical Engineering to be able to assess the feasibility of design options
*
Detailed design of mechanical parts, pipework, assemblies and enclosures
*
Detailed knowledge of motion types, pneumatic systems, bearings, linear slide assemblies, ball screws and mechanical systems
*
Detailed knowledge of metal fabrication processes
*
High attention to detail to produce quality production data
*
Understanding of machine tool capabilities, miller & lathe etc.
*
Understand customer needs, internal standards and supplier capabilities
*
Write and produce operation and maintenance manuals
*
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team
*
A ‘hands on’ approach when required
