Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Building Services Consultancy | Southampton Area (Hybrid)
The Opportunity
We’re representing a forward-thinking building services consultancy in Fareham that is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a key role, leading the design and delivery of innovative, sustainable mechanical services across commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects.
You’ll play a pivotal part in shaping design solutions, mentoring engineers, and working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects from concept through to completion.
What You’ll Do
Take ownership of the mechanical design process for building services (HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water systems).
Produce and review design calculations, technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
Coordinate effectively with clients, project teams, and other engineering disciplines.
Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering technical growth and best practices.
Ensure all designs meet UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance, and sustainability standards.
Actively contribute to client meetings, workshops, and design reviews.
Support business development and help drive continuous improvement across the consultancy.
What We’re Looking For
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent).
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (IMechE, CIBSE, or similar).
At least 5+ years of consultancy-based experience in mechanical building services design.
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC and building services systems.
Proficiency with design software such as Hevacomp, IES, Revit, and AutoCAD.
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Proven track record in managing complex projects and guiding design teams.
