Job Description

Senior Payroll Specialist Contract: 9-month FTC (potential to extend) Start date: Immediate Salary: Competitive Hours: Mon–Fri, 9am–5.30pm (37.5hrs) Location: Homebased (UK), with occasional travel Role Overview Working for an wonderful social care provider, this senior role leads the delivery of accurate, compliant payroll while also overseeing HR systems, data, and administration. You'll ensure seamless integration across functions, drive improvements, and support strategic decision-making with robust processes and reporting. Key Responsibilities • Lead and oversee payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance (PAYE, NI, pensions), and on-time delivery. • Manage and support the Payroll Manager and wider team. • Act as the organisation’s senior payroll expert, resolving complex issues and ensuring regulatory compliance. • Drive payroll systems improvements, automation, and audit readiness. • Provide strategic reporting and insight to senior leadership. • Oversee the HR Admin Manager, ensuring efficient management of HR data, processes and HR systems. • Champion data quality, reporting, and continuous improvement across payroll and HR systems. • Lead cross-functional projects involving pay, policy, and systems change. What You’ll Need • Proven leadership in end-to-end payroll within complex or multi-site environments. • Strong knowledge of payroll systems particularly for payroll processing, workflows, and data accuracy. • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements. • Confident managing multiple teams and workstreams. • Strong data and reporting skills; Excel/Power BI desirable. • Excellent communication, discretion, and stakeholder management. • Experience using People XD would be a distinct advantage but not essential
