Job Description

Senior Play Officer – Southwark Adventure Playgrounds Up to £22 per hour. The London Borough of Southwark is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Play Officer to manage and develop one of our vibrant Adventure Playgrounds. This is a fantastic opportunity to take the lead in delivering high-quality, open-access play provision for children and young people in our diverse communities. The Role As a Senior Play Officer, you will be crucial in ensuring our play provision meets the goals of relevant corporate strategies for children and young people. Your main responsibilities will include: * Operational Management: Taking charge of the day-to-day operation and development of the Adventure Playground facility, ensuring a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment. * Play Leadership: Leading the front-line delivery of a stimulating programme of adventure play activities across all Play Types for children and young people aged 8–15 years old (and up to 25 with SEND). * Team Supervision: Managing and supervising the play worker team, fostering a positive and effective work environment. * Programme Development: Actively participating in the annual programme planning process to ensure a varied, interesting, and child-led range of activities. * Participation & Consultation: Being responsible for promoting children and young people’s participation in all aspects of planning, monitoring, and evaluating activities. This includes supporting consultation groups like the Play Forum and local Friends groups. * Outreach & Promotion: Maximising facility uptake by promoting and publicising the activities available across the borough. You will undertake outreach work, liaise with local providers, attend partner meetings (including schools, tenants/residents groups, and community organisations), and build strong relationships. * Partnership Working: Collaborating effectively with other agencies, such as schools, voluntary sector partners, and council departments, to enhance provision. About You To excel in this role, you will need demonstrable experience and strong knowledge in: * Facilitating Play in an open-access setting. * Managing teams and supervising staff. * Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures. * Health and Safety regulations and conducting thorough Risk Assessments. * Excellent First Aid knowledge/certification. * Strong Administration skills for record-keeping and reporting.
