About the Role
* My client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in electrical and substation projects (33kV – 400kV) to lead and expand their in-house capabilities. Their company has traditionally focused on mechanical and structural works, but as they grow, they’re bringing electrical expertise under their own roof to deliver more comprehensive solutions. This is a pivotal hire: the successful candidate will not only deliver complex substation projects but will also play a key role in shaping their future electrical service offering, directly contributing to business growth and competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of substation and HV electrical projects (33kV–400kV), ensuring compliance, safety, and profitability.
* Act as the primary interface with clients, ICPs, DNOs, TNOs, and subcontractors.
* Oversee and manage subcontracted electrical scopes, with the long-term goal of building in-house capability.
* Drive project programmes from design through construction, commissioning, and client handover.
* Ensure all works are delivered to the highest standards of quality, health and safety (CDM compliance), and contractual obligations.
* Support the business in winning new contracts by providing technical expertise during tenders and proposals.
* Mentor junior project managers and engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
* Contribute to company strategy, with clear progression to a Director-level position.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as a Senior Project Manager in substations or HV electrical infrastructure.
* Strong technical knowledge of substation design, construction, and commissioning (33kV – 400kV).
* Background in ICPs, DNOs, TNOs, or specialist transmission contractors.
* Demonstrable track record of delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and within budget.
* Excellent commercial awareness, contractual knowledge, and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong leadership qualities – able to manage teams, subcontractors, and client relationships effectively.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng), MAPM, or equivalent qualifications desirable but not essential.
