Job Description

The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure project in the Aberdeen. This is a temporary position designed to provide additional commercial support during an important stage of the project. The role will initially bridge a resource gap while a permanent, full-time member of staff is recruited later in the project. The successful candidate will join the project during the pre-construction phase, with construction scheduled to commence on 1 October. This is a good opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong civil engineering background to become involved before the main construction works get underway and take ownership of significant subcontract packages from the outset. The Role As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will have a strong focus on the commercial management of the project's civil works and major subcontract packages. The role will involve taking responsibility for significant packages, ensuring that commercial performance is effectively managed from procurement and contract award through to completion. You will work closely with the wider project, commercial and site teams to ensure that subcontractors are performing against their contractual obligations and that commercial risks are identified and managed at an early stage. The major packages currently include: Groundworks package valued at approximately £22 million Groundworks package valued at approximately £6 million Steel and envelope package valued at approximately £13 million Given the size and value of these packages, previous experience managing large subcontractors is essential. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in a commercially demanding environment and dealing confidently with subcontractors, project teams and senior stakeholders. A strong understanding of NEC3 Option A is required, particularly in relation to subcontract administration, change management, commercial reporting and contractual processes. Experience using CEAR for subcontract administration would be highly advantageous. Key Responsibilities The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of allocated subcontract packages. This will include: Managing major civil engineering and construction subcontracts from procurement through to final account. Monitoring subcontractor performance against contractual requirements, programme and commercial targets. Administering NEC3 Option A subcontract arrangements. Managing change, compensation events, variations and associated commercial assessments. Reviewing and assessing subcontractor applications for payment. Preparing payment assessments and maintaining accurate commercial records. Monitoring subcontract costs against budgets and forecasts. Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and ensuring these are communicated to the wider project team. Supporting the preparation and maintenance of accurate cost/value reports. Reviewing subcontractor quotations and supporting commercial negotiations. Managing the commercial aspects of subcontractor progress and performance. Maintaining a clear audit trail of commercial and contractual decisions. Supporting the project team with commercial advice and contract interpretation. Working closely with site management, project management, procurement and engineering teams. Assisting with the preparation of forecasts, cost reports and financial updates. Supporting the resolution of commercial and contractual issues as they arise. Ensuring subcontract administration is completed accurately and within the requirements of the contract.
