Senior Quantity Surveyor

Summary
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide comprehensive commercial and contractual support across multiple projects, managing the full commercial lifecycle from initial procurement through to final account settlement. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the role involves administering contracts under various frameworks (including NEC Fixed Price/Target Price contracts, Framework Call-off forms, and Design Orders), ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. The postholder will be responsible for commercial administration tasks such as payment processing, managing compensation events, programme reviews, subcontractor approvals, and producing cost value reconciliations and commercial reports.
This role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to interpret and apply contract terms effectively. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth project delivery, manage risk registers, and support dispute resolution. Additionally, the role includes supervising and developing junior Quantity Surveyors, providing guidance and training to ensure consistent contract management practices.
The ideal candidate will be numerate, detail-oriented, and able to communicate complex financial and commercial information clearly. They will be self-motivated, adaptable to a fast-paced environment, and capable of building strong working relationships across teams and with external partners.
Skills
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, or Project Management
Strong commercial and contractual management skills, particularly with NEC3 contracts
Experience in contract administration and change control procedures
Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management abilities
Proficient in cost analysis, forecasting, and financial reporting
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under pressure
Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
Leadership and team development experience, including mentoring junior staff
High level of PC literacy, including Excel; knowledge of SAP and project management tools advantageous
Flexible and self-motivated with a strong drive to succeed
Certifications & Standards
Working towards or membership of a professional body such as RICS or ICES (desirable but not essential)
Knowledge of NEC3 contract conditions and construction industry standards
