The Role - Senior Quantity Surveyor
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a respected civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure projects.
As a key member of the commercial team, you will work closely with project delivery teams and senior management to ensure the effective financial and contractual management of projects ranging in value from £200k to £10m+.
You will play a central role in driving cost efficiency, managing risk, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting across a portfolio of civil engineering works.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management
Provide accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit level.
Manage cash flow forecasting and monthly CVRs.
Support procurement, negotiation, and management of subcontractors.
Prepare and agree project applications for payment through to final account settlement.
Liaise with clients and stakeholders on commercial issues, including variations and claims.
Identify and track commercial opportunities while mitigating potential risks.
Contracts
Administer and manage NEC and IChemE contracts.
Support the project team in reviewing main contract terms and ensuring alignment with company governance.
Oversee subcontract procurement and post-contract management.
Maintain strong supply chain relationships and ensure appropriate contract terms are in place.
Process & Reporting
Support internal commercial processes, ensuring compliance with deadlines and standards.
Produce monthly forecasting and cost analysis reports.
Promote best practice and process improvements within the commercial team.
About You
Essential
Proven experience in the construction or civil engineering industry.
Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and Construction Law.
Experience managing subcontractors, including procurement, payments, and financial reporting.
Skilled in cost forecasting, CVR reporting, and commercial risk management.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Desirable
Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
Member of RICS or working towards chartership.
CSCS card.
Previous experience with a direct delivery contractor.
Background in the water or civil infrastructure sectors.
Experience mentoring or managing junior team members.
