Senior Residential Worker - Specialist Deaf School - Wandsworth
We are recruiting a dedicated Senior Residential Worker on behalf of a specialist residential school for deaf children and young people. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a central role in supporting the development, well-being, and independence of students in a safe and nurturing environment.
Job Title: Senior Residential Worker – Deaf School
Location: Wandsworth
Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term
Start: ASAP or September
Hours: 8:30 - 16:00 (approx.)
Key Responsibilities
Promote the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social well-being of all students in the residential setting.
Support the Head of Care in the strategic development of the residential provision.
Take responsibility for the residential service and ensure the safety and welfare of students and staff in the absence of the Head of Care.
Lead, support, and line-manage residential staff and volunteers, including supervision and development.
Plan and participate in meaningful activities, workshops, and outings for students.
Act as a positive role model and encourage students to develop independence, self-discipline, and responsibility.
Implement and uphold medical and safeguarding policies, shift planning, health & safety checks, and emergency procedures.
Support and contribute to the completion of Care Plans, reports, risk assessments, student reviews, and communication with parents/carers.
Uphold equality, diversity, and inclusivity throughout the residential setting.
Participate in sleeping-in duties and be available for overnight on-call support.
Additional Duties May Include Responsibility For:
Medical policies and medication protocols
Rota and shift planning
Organising recreational and social activities
Development of the residential and student handbooks
Supporting new staff induction and training
Fire safety, drills, and monthly safety checks
Promoting student voice through councils, feedback, and reviews
Behaviour management and recording sanctions
Leading residential improvement initiatives
Essential Requirements
BSL Level 1 (British Sign Language) minimum
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Child/Social Care
Experience working in a residential care setting with children or young people
Strong understanding of safeguarding, SEND, and the needs of deaf children
Ability to lead by example and maintain professional standards
Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
Commitment to ongoing training and development
