Job Description
Belmont Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join Wrexham Council's Schools Finance Team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a 6-month contract with potential for extension, providing high-level financial support to schools and the Education Management Team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring financial monitoring, budget planning, and compliance processes are delivered accurately and on time. You will be working closely with Head Teachers, School Support Staff, and senior managers, offering technical financial advice and supporting strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

Provide financial and technical advice, support, and assistance to service and team managers.
*
Deliver costings and financial information to support budget planning, service development plans, and resource management.
*
Support revenue budget monitoring processes, ensuring effective budgetary control.
*
Prepare and present financial reports at various management levels.
*
Assist with the completion of monthly VAT duties, including VAT return and monitoring of the Council’s Partial Exemption position.
*
Deputise for the Finance Manager at meetings and manage the team during absences.
*
Maintain flexibility to work outside normal hours when required, including evening meetings.
*
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role.
Requirements
*
Previous experience as a Finance Officer or Senior Finance Officer, ideally within local authority or education sector.
*
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budget monitoring, and VAT processes.
*
Ability to provide accurate financial advice and manage complex financial data.
*
Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft Excel.
