Senior SEN Officer – Camden Council
Location: 5 Pancras Square, London (Agile/Hybrid Working)
Are you passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Do you have the leadership skills to manage a team and help deliver high-quality statutory services in a vibrant and inclusive borough? If so, Camden Council would like to hear from you.
We are looking for a committed and experienced Senior SEN Officer to lead a team of Assessment and Case Coordinators. Reporting to the SEN Manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring Camden meets its statutory responsibilities for children and young people with SEND under the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
This is a pivotal role, requiring strategic oversight and a strong understanding of SEND legislation and practice. Depending on experience, you will oversee either the 0–14 or 14–25 age range, and will need to demonstrate expertise in your designated area.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage a team of Assessment and Case Coordinators, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely statutory services.
* Oversee statutory SEND processes, including annual reviews, EHC plan development, phased transfers, and tribunal work.
* Monitor and improve performance to meet key deadlines and statutory compliance measures (e.g., 100% of EHC plans issued within 20 weeks).
* Implement person-centred planning approaches that uphold the views and wishes of children, young people, and their families.
* Ensure parents and carers are kept informed and supported through clear, transparent, and empathetic communication.
* Use data and service user feedback to drive service development, resource planning, and continuous improvement.
* Support the local authority’s wider priorities in early intervention, inclusion, and equitable resource distribution.
* Develop effective working relationships with headteachers, educational leaders, health and social care partners, and voluntary sector organisations.
* Promote staff well-being and foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team culture.
What We’re Looking For:
* A degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field. A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
* Proven leadership and people management experience, ideally in a SEND or education context.
* In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, statutory guidance, and inclusive education practices.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
* Analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions and improve outcomes.
* A commitment to inclusive practice, person-centred approaches, and continuous professional development.
Working Environment:
