Role description:
We have a great opportunity in our Structural Engineering team within the Places Design Practice. This role is specifically related to a project for a large manufacturing facility in North East England. We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer with a strong technical background, ability to design substructures and superstructures, and experience in leading the structural aspects of projects.
Role accountabilities:
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for leading the design and coordination of structures in the context of the wider project, supporting more senior colleagues as required on a range of tasks. You will be contributing to the management of the technical and commercial aspects of the project, leading the delivery of specific packages and associated teams of structural engineers and BIM modellers. You will be regularly interfacing with clients and other stakeholders.
You will participate in our technical quality process by validating the work of other team members.
You will have the opportunity to mentor engineers and other colleagues in the context of the project or in the wider endeavours of our teams.
Qualifications & Experience:

- Relevant degree.
- Professional qualification, preferably as chartered member of the IStructE or the ICE. Substantial progress towards chartership may be accepted, particularly if supported by evidence of recent commitment to conclude the process.
- Strong technical ability, based on deep knowledge of structural principles and developed through experience in a variety of projects.
- Familiarity with commonly used structural materials, including knowledge of practical aspects of their specification and use on site.
- Experience in the design and modification of large warehouses and other industrial buildings for manufacturing processes. Experience in the design of battery manufacturing facilities would be a clear advantage.
- Experience in the validation of work by other design teams (e.g. Category 2 or Category 3 checks, technical assurance roles and similar) and built structures would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of some commonly used structural analysis and design programs.
- Outstanding commitment to health and safety and knowledge of relevant legal requirements. Holding a valid CSCS card will be essential.
- Excellent communication skills and experience in preparation of technical reports.
- Attention to detail and acumen when reviewing the work of others to ensure quality or detect errors.
- Interest in sustainable solution and commitment to sustainable outcomes.
- Ability to successfully manage teams and resources on projects.
