Structural Engineer - Defect Diagnosis & Structural Investigations
I'm currently working with an established consultancy in Liverpool City Centre that is looking to appoint an experienced Structural Engineer with strong expertise in inspection and design. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied technical role, balancing site inspections, reporting, client interaction and mentoring.
The position offers a flexible blend of office, remote and site work, with full-time preferred, however, a 4-day week can be considered for the right candidate.
The Role
You'll be carrying out structural inspections across a wide variety of properties, including residential, commercial, healthcare and education buildings. Your work will focus on diagnosing defects, advising on remedial solutions and preparing clear, professional reports.
You will also support the wider team with client liaison, fee proposals, invoicing and offering guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct structural surveys and investigations across multiple building types
Produce detailed reports with observations, findings and recommended remedial actions
Prepare schedules of remedial works
Assess structural suitability for alterations and prepare associated design drawings
Oversee the production of design drawings and technical specifications for tenders
Analyse structural defects and provide practical remediation strategies
Attend construction sites to monitor progress and advise contractors
Contribute to fee proposals, scopes of services and invoicing
Support internal QA processes and maintain project documentation
Build and maintain strong client relationships to encourage repeat business
Mentor and support less experienced team membersAbout You
Proven structural design and investigation experience across concrete, steel, masonry and timber
Strong track record of UK-based structural investigations and defect diagnosis
Excellent communication skills-clear written reporting is essential
Chartered (MIStructE/MICE) preferred, but experienced non-chartered engineers will also be considered
