Job Description
Enterprise Control Systems (ECS), part of SPX CommTech, is seeking a motivated and imaginative Senior Systems Engineer to take a key role in the development of advanced communications and counter-threat solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit, high-impact team that thrives on solving complex problems and delivering world-class products.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working at the front end of the engineering lifecycle—shaping concepts, translating high-level requirements, and maintaining the system-level vision throughout development. If you’re experienced in leading engineering efforts without necessarily owning the detailed design work—and can influence processes, engage customers, and drive product delivery alongside commercial teams—this could be the ideal role for you. The position is based in Northamptonshire and offered on a hybrid basis.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Leading systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle—from bids and proposals through to architecture, verification, and delivery
* Acting as a technical lead without needing to own detailed design—coordinating across RF, hardware, software, and mechanical disciplines
* Collaborating with commercial and customer-facing teams to support technical discussions and refine system-level solutions
* Shaping and improving engineering processes, documentation and design reviews
* Flowing down high-level customer requirements into actionable system architecture and ensuring the technical solution meets expectations
* Guiding trade-offs, reviewing designs and documentation, and ensuring successful delivery across cross-functional teams
You’ll Thrive If You Have:
* Experience in systems engineering, ideally within secure communications, defence technology, or similar environments
* A solid grasp of systems engineering principles including requirements capture, architecture, verification and interface management
* Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities with the ability to see the bigger picture
* Confidence working independently as well as guiding and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
* Experience in working closely with commercial and bid teams
* A passion for improving processes and driving delivery
