Service & Assembly Technician
Location: West Midlands (Workshop-based)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £25,000 – £28,000 (depending on experience)
Overview:
We’re working with a leading UK engineering firm who design and build specialist tools used in hazardous material handling across defence, emergency services, nuclear and energy sectors. As their operations grow, they’re now looking for a practical and hands-on Service & Assembly Technician to join their team in the West Midlands.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their engineering career—whether you’re recently qualified, apprenticeship-trained or looking to build a long-term technical role in a highly specialised environment.
The Role:
The position is workshop-based and offers involvement across the full lifecycle of their products—from initial assembly and testing, to servicing and repair. You’ll work within a close-knit technical team assembling precision mechanical/electrical systems, learning new skills in machining, pneumatics, and diagnostics along the way.
You’ll be supported with structured training and offered real progression routes into more senior roles within service, engineering, or project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
⦁ Assemble and integrate mechanical and electrical systems in-house
⦁ Carry out inspections, servicing, and basic repairs of returned equipment
⦁ Assist in product testing and maintain relevant documentation
⦁ Maintain workshop equipment and support day-to-day operations
⦁ Learn and apply diagnostic, machining, and fitting techniques
⦁ Collaborate with experienced engineers on active projects
Candidate Profile:
⦁ Practical background in a mechanical or technical role (e.g. apprentice, fitter, technician)
⦁ Relevant qualification – HNC, HND, or completed engineering apprenticeship
⦁ Hands-on experience using tools, interpreting drawings, and assembling components
⦁ Eager to learn, proactive, and detail-focused
⦁ Comfortable working as part of a small technical team
⦁ Good communication skills and a positive, problem-solving attitude
