Service Engineer

The Role
Engineering Direct are exclusively recruiting for a skilled and motivated Service Engineer to join a dynamic service team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position requiring both independent and team-based work across a variety of UK sites.
You’ll play a critical role in the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and hydraulic lifting equipment, airframe tooling, and plant machinery—both in the workshop and on client sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect and test lifting equipment (on-site and in-house)
* Conduct safety inspections in compliance with LOLER and PUWER
* Perform maintenance, servicing, and repair work on ground support equipment and airframe tools
* Modify and upgrade lifting equipment as required
* Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental best practices
* Assist with training and mentoring of junior staff or new starters as needed
* Produce accurate service reports and documentation

The Candidate
* Eligibility to work in the UK, no sponsorship is available.
* LEEA qualified or similar industry-recognised certification
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering preferred
* Solid understanding of LOLER and PUWER compliance
* Advantageous certifications: IPAF, CSCS, Counterbalance forklift
* Working knowledge of electrical maintenance is a plus
* Strong mechanical aptitude, including hydraulics and pneumatics
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
* Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
* Well-organised, self-disciplined, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
* Must be willing to travel regularly within the UK (and occasionally overseas)
* A valid UK driving licence and passport are essential
