Job Description

AWC Staff Services are looking for a SHEQ Lead to be responsible for ensuring the implementation and continuous improvement of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality systems on gas infrastructure projects. This role supports safe delivery of all contractual works in compliance with statutory obligations, client requirements, and industry best practices. Key Requirements: Qualifications: * NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent (NEBOSH Construction preferred). * Environmental qualification (IEMA or equivalent) – desirable. * Auditor qualification for ISO standards (desirable). Experience: * Minimum 5 years of SHEQ experience, with at least 2 years in the gas or utility sector. * Proven experience working on major gas infrastructure or energy-related construction projects. * Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) – if applicable. Skills: * Excellent knowledge of HSE legislation and industry practices. * Strong communication and leadership skills. * Competent in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and reporting. * Ability to influence and drive a safety-first culture on site. Additional Requirements: * Valid UK driving license (or equivalent) * Willingness to travel to multiple sites * Flexibility to work out-of-hours if required Your Key Responsibilities will include: * SHEQ Management System Implementation: * Lead and maintain SHEQ policies, procedures, and plans aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001. * Drive the implementation of risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and permit-to-work systems. * Site Compliance & Monitoring: * Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with legal, client, and internal SHEQ standards. * Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances; report findings and implement corrective actions. * Training & Engagement: * Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and SHEQ induction sessions. * Promote a strong safety culture and act as a point of contact for SHEQ queries on site. * Documentation & Reporting: * Maintain SHEQ logs, site reports, and ensure all documentation is complete and up to date. * Provide periodic reports to senior management and clients on SHEQ performance metrics and KPIs. * Liaison & Communication: * Work collaboratively with site managers, contractors, clients, and regulators. * Attend coordination meetings and represent the SHEQ function in internal and external forums
