Job Description

Shift Engineer (Multi-Skilled - Mechanical & Electrical) Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off, 2 days, 2 nights Kent £50-55k Engineering role with an FMCG business who offer structured training and development. A great team to join with real expertise to learn from and develop. With global customers, they are set for growth. Work with some fantastic well-known brands we all know and love. These engineering roles will suit candidates who are used to working in manufacturing, ideally in fast paced environments but not essential. It's a hands-on engineering role working with a variety of kit - some new, some needing a bit more TLC. The Role: As a Shift Engineer, you'll be responsible for supporting production by responding promptly to equipment breakdowns and carrying out planned maintenance. You'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant environment, ensuring machinery meets internal standards and external regulations. Your mechanical and electrical expertise will be essential in keeping the site running efficiently and to be part of a cohesive engineering team. Key Responsibilities: Deliver effective maintenance support to ensure production continuity. Carry out breakdown repairs, fault finding, and root cause analysis. Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Follow all safety, hygiene, and operational procedures including safe systems of work and contractor controls. Accurately complete maintenance records and shift handover documentation. Manage spare parts, ensuring correct usage and proper stock returns when unused. Keep engineering areas, workshops, and plant rooms clean, organized, and compliant with site standards. Support continuous improvement by maintaining clear communication with Shift Managers and escalating issues when necessary. What do you need in your background for this role? Strong background in both mechanical and electrical maintenance. A sound understanding of engineering principles and safe working practices. The ability to work efficiently under pressure and respond quickly to breakdowns. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and FMCG environments is advantageous. A proactive approach with a focus on delivering exceptional service to production.
