Ship's Gear Driver - South Wales
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Ship's Gear Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating shipboard cranes and related cargo-handling equipment to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely loading and discharging of vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate ship's cranes, derricks, and other lifting equipment in compliance with company and port regulations.
Safely load, unload, and stow cargo in accordance with cargo plans and instructions.
Inspect and maintain gear, slings, and lifting equipment to ensure safety and readiness.
Communicate effectively with stevedores, deck crew, and supervisors to coordinate cargo operations.
Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols at all times.
Assist in reporting equipment faults or damage to the relevant department.Requirements:
Proven experience as a Ship's Gear Operator or in a similar cargo-handling role.
Valid certification or license to operate shipboard lifting gear (where required).
Strong knowledge of cargo-handling procedures, lifting equipment, and safety practices.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions precisely.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and irregular hours as required by vessel schedules.What We Offer:
