Our client is an HGV dealership in Livingston. Currently they are looking for an experienced Shotblaster operator to join their busy workshop.
Automotive experience is compulsory.
Position Summary
The Shotblaster Operator is responsible for preparing, cleaning, and finishing metal or concrete surfaces using shotblasting equipment. This role ensures surfaces are treated to the required standard for coating, painting, repair, or industrial use. The operator must follow safety procedures, maintain equipment, and produce high-quality results consistently.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Duties:
* Operate shotblasting machinery and related equipment safely and efficiently.
* Prepare workpieces or surfaces before blasting (cleaning, masking, positioning).
* Select appropriate blasting media and adjust machine settings (pressure, flow, speed).
* Perform blasting to remove rust, scale, old coatings, dirt, or imperfections.
* Ensure the final surface meets required standards, textures, and specifications.
* Inspect completed work for quality, thickness, and uniformity.
* Handle and move materials or components using lifting equipment if required.
Maintenance & Safety:
* Perform routine maintenance on shotblast equipment, including cleaning nozzles, checking hoses, replacing media, and ensuring proper air supply.
* Monitor equipment for faults and report issues immediately.
* Follow all company safety protocols, PPE requirements, and industry regulations.
* Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free work area.
Documentation & Reporting:
* Record production output, maintenance activities, and any defects found.
* Communicate progress, delays, or issues to supervisors or production managers.
* Follow job sheets, technical drawings, and written specifications.
Skills & QualificationsEssential:
* Previous experience operating shotblast machinery or similar industrial equipment.
* Strong understanding of mechanical processes and safety procedures.
* Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (standing, lifting, PPE use).
* Good attention to detail and quality standards.
* Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of different abrasive media types and surface preparation standards (e.g., SA2.5).
* Forklift licence or experience using lifting/handling equipment.
* Understanding of industrial coating or painting processes.
Work Environment
* Industrial / workshop environment.
* Exposure to dust, noise, vibration; PPE must be worn at all times.
* Shift work or overtime may be required depending on workload.
