Senior Engineer / Site Agent – Heavy Civils & Earthworks

Location: South West

Rate: Competitive Day Rate

Duration: Long-Term Contract

Start: Immediate

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Engineer / Site Agent to join a major civil engineering project delivering a technically challenging package of earthworks and reinforced concrete construction. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile infrastructure scheme, taking ownership of a critical section of the project from planning through to completion.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of a complex package involving the backfilling around and over reinforced concrete frame structures. Due to the nature of the works, this is a high-risk operation requiring an individual with a strong engineering background, excellent leadership skills, and proven experience delivering major earthworks and heavy civils projects.

The successful candidate will initially be involved in a short pre-construction phase, developing construction methodologies, sequencing, temporary works requirements and delivery programmes before taking full responsibility for the on-site execution of the works.

You will lead site teams, coordinate subcontractors, manage engineering activities and ensure the package is delivered safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the planning and delivery of a complex earthworks and reinforced concrete package.

Develop construction methodology, sequencing and short-term programmes during the pre-construction phase.

Lead and coordinate Site Engineers, Foremen, subcontractors and operational teams.

Ensure all engineering works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications.

Monitor programme performance and drive progress to achieve key milestones.

Manage quality assurance, inspections, ITPs and engineering documentation.

Coordinate plant, labour and material resources.

Identify and resolve technical and engineering challenges throughout the project.

Maintain excellent health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

Liaise with the client, consultants and wider project team to ensure successful delivery.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Senior Engineer, Site Agent or Sub Agent on major civil engineering projects.

Strong background in earthworks, reinforced concrete structures and heavy civils.

Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary site teams.

Experience delivering technically challenging construction packages from planning through to completion.

Proactive approach with strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

SMSTS

CSCS Card

First Aid at Work

HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related construction discipline.
