Job Description

Abatec is currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to join a major earthworks and infrastructure project based in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a leading civil engineering contractor on a long-term scheme involving bulk earthworks, cut and fill operations, drainage, haul roads, and site infrastructure.

The Role

As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical delivery of the works, ensuring all engineering activities are carried out safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  * Setting out for bulk earthworks, drainage and infrastructure works.

  * Carrying out topographical surveys and volume calculations.

  * Producing and maintaining QA documentation and as-built records.

  * Managing machine control systems and GPS equipment.

  * Interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

  * Monitoring levels, coordinates and tolerances across the project.

  * Liaising with site management, subcontractors and survey teams.

  * Supporting project delivery to programme and quality requirements.

Requirements

  * Proven experience working as a Site Engineer on earthworks or major civil engineering projects.

  * Competent using GPS and Total Station equipment (Trimble or Leica preferred).

  * Experience with machine control and survey software.

  * Strong understanding of QA procedures and as-built documentation.

  * CSCS Card.

  * HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

  * Excellent communication and organisational skills.
