Site Engineer – Tunnels & Shafts
Location: Liverpool, North West England
Job Type: Long-term Contract
Day Rate: £350 – £450 per day (CIS) only
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Site Engineer to join a major infrastructure contractor delivering a tunnelling and shafts package in Liverpool. The project includes deep shaft construction, pipe jacking, and heavy civils.
This role will support the site team in delivering technical and quality standards across the works. It's a great opportunity to work on a technically challenging package within a high-performing project team.
Key Responsibilities
*
Setting out for shafts, tunnel alignments, and associated civils
*
Maintaining as-built records and site reporting
*
Overseeing temporary works and coordinating with subcontractors
*
Carrying out quality checks in line with project ITPs
*
Assisting with method statements, risk assessments and permit systems
*
Reviewing and interpreting technical drawings and plans
*
Supporting the resolution of technical issues and engineering queries
Requirements
*
Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or similar
*
Minimum 2 years’ site engineering experience with tunnells and shafts on civil engineering projects
*
Previous involvement with shafts, deep excavations, tunnelling, or pipe jacking
*
Valid CSCS card (Engineer level minimum)
*
SSSTS or SMSTS preferred
*
Competent with AutoCAD and setting out instruments (e.g. GPS, Total Station)
*
Sound understanding of HSEQ procedures on civil engineering sites
Desirable Experience
*
Experience on tunnelling or heavy civils infrastructure packages
*
Familiarity with reinforced concrete, dewatering systems, or confined space works
*
Knowledge of temporary works coordination or lifting operations
