The Opportunity
Sphere Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Manager to join a civils contractor delivering a further Debris Screen project as part of an Environment Agency framework in the East Bristol area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Manager with a strong background in civil engineering, flood defence, water or environmental works to take responsibility for the successful day-to-day delivery of a specialist project.
The project forms part of ongoing flood resilience and water infrastructure works and will involve managing site operations, subcontractors and site teams while ensuring the works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project programme and specification.
You will take a hands-on approach to site management, working closely with the Project Manager, engineers, subcontractors and the wider delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the site.
Lead and coordinate site teams, subcontractors and specialist trades.
Manage the delivery of debris screen and associated civil engineering works.
Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and RAMS.
Plan and coordinate daily site activities and resources.
Monitor progress against the programme and report any delays or potential issues.
Manage site logistics, materials, plant and deliveries.
Ensure all works are completed to the required quality standards.
Carry out regular site inspections and monitor workmanship.
Liaise closely with the Site Engineer and Project Manager regarding setting out, technical queries and construction issues.
Coordinate subcontractors and ensure they are working safely and productively.
Monitor health and safety standards across the site.
Lead site briefings, toolbox talks and daily coordination meetings where required.
Ensure relevant site records and documentation are maintained.
Identify potential risks and implement appropriate control measures.
Manage environmental considerations associated with working around watercourses and existing infrastructure.
Assist with resolving technical and operational issues as they arise.
Maintain strong communication with the project team, client representatives and other stakeholders.
Support the project through to completion, snagging and handover.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience working as a Site Manager within civil engineering, water, flood defence, environmental or infrastructure projects.
Experience working on Environment Agency, flood defence, watercourse or similar civils schemes would be highly advantageous.
You should be confident managing subcontractors and site teams and be comfortable working in a hands-on site environment where safety, quality and programme are key priorities.

Proven experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering or infrastructure.
SMSTS – essential.
CSCS – essential.
First Aid – essential.
Strong understanding of construction health and safety.
Experience managing subcontractors and site teams.
Ability to read and work from construction drawings and specifications.
Good understanding of RAMS and site documentation.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage programmes, resources and competing priorities.
Desirable Experience
Environment Agency framework experience.
Flood defence and flood resilience projects.
Debris screens or river/watercourse works.
Water or wastewater projects.
Environmental and civils schemes.
Temporary works and excavation experience.
Working around live watercourses.
Experience working with public-sector clients.
