About The Role Site Technicians/Clerk of Works Wanted – Join Our Highways Team! Helping shape the future of Manchester’s roads. This role is subject to - 2 References - where possible we require 3 years' history. Driving Licence – The successful candidate should ideally hold a full clean driving licence as you will be required to drive a vehicle adhering to council regulations. OR Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use. The Planned Maintenance team are responsible for the design and delivery of MCC’s annual £20m+ planned maintenance programme, covering around 450 sites across the city. From resurfacing and reconstruction to innovative preventative treatments, we keep Manchester moving. You’ll bring deep knowledge of materials, site operations and highway maintenance techniques, ensuring our work is safe, efficient and high-quality. What You’ll Do As a Site Technician/Clerk of Works, you’ll be the eyes and ears on the ground, responsible for: Assessing sites for future programme inclusion Supervising contractors daily to uphold safety and quality Managing day-to-day site issues as they arise Investigating complaints linked to works Keeping accurate site records and reporting progress Inspecting completed works and identifying any remedial needs Collaborating with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to support smooth programme delivery For an informal discussion, please contact the hiring manager, Graham Price. About the Candidate Essential Skills & Experience Proven, hands-on experience in Highway Construction and Maintenance. Awareness of carriageway & footway resurfacing and preventative treatments (Micro Surfacing / Slurry Seal / Surface Dressing), with enthusiasm to learn more Understanding of permits, public notices and general highway works processes Ability to read or create simple drawings or marked up plans Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the city Desirable Understanding of Greater Manchester network operations (TfGM, UTC) ONC/HNC in Highway or Civil Engineering (or equivalent). Recognised CAD qualification — or a willingness to work towards one. You’ll be a confident communicator who listens, understands and acts.
