SMT Technician - Colchester - Up to £32,000 - 25 Days Holiday plus Bank Holidays
A leading electronics manufacturer in the test and measurement industry is looking to recruit an experienced SMT Technician to join their fast-paced production environment near Colchester. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity offering competitive pay and long-term career prospects in a supportive team setting.
Job Summary:
You'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) department, supporting production, NPI (New Product Introduction), R&D, and new technologies by maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency across two busy SMT lines.
Key Responsibilities:
Program, set, and operate a range of SMT equipment, including:
Screen printers
Pick and place machines
AOI systems
Vapor phase ovens
X-ray inspection equipment
Rework and repair stations
Rework and repair of faulty PCBA units
Troubleshooting equipment and process issues
Conducting final quality checks and inspections
Thermal profiling and oven calibration
Adhering to 5S and health & safety protocols
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in a high-speed SMT environment
Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/21, J-STD-001 preferred)
Solid knowledge of SMT equipment operation and maintenance
Strong soldering and rework skills
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving ability
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and metrics reporting
