Job Title: Social Worker - Emergency Duty Team (EDT)

Hourly Rate: £32 per hour
About the Role:
Nottingham City Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Social Worker to join our dedicated Emergency Duty Team (EDT). This is an exciting opportunity to provide crucial out-of-hours social work support, responding to urgent and crisis situations that arise when day services are closed.
As an EDT Social Worker, you will be a vital part of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults across Nottingham. You will be responsible for undertaking complex assessments, making critical decisions under pressure, and implementing immediate protective measures. This role demands resilience, excellent assessment skills, and a strong commitment to multi-agency working.
Key Responsibilities:
Responding to emergency referrals concerning children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
Conducting urgent assessments of risk and need in crisis situations.
Making proportionate and defensible decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals.
Working collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health services, and other emergency services.
Providing professional advice and guidance to other professionals and members of the public.
Maintaining accurate and timely records of all interventions.
Participating in the EDT rota, which will include evening, weekend, and bank holiday shifts.
About You:
You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., BA Social Work, DipSW, CQSW).
Current and valid registration with Social Work England is essential.
Significant post-qualifying experience in a frontline social work setting, ideally within a local authority, and demonstrable experience in undertaking complex risk assessments. Experience in an out-of-hours or emergency duty team is highly desirable.
Comprehensive understanding of relevant social care legislation, policies, and procedures relating to both children's and adults' services (e.g., Children Act 1989/2004, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, even under pressure.
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a small, supportive team.
Proficient in using IT systems for record-keeping and case management.
A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable individuals.
Willingness to work unsociable hours as part of a rota system.
