Job Description
Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled and certified Electrician to join our renewable energy team, specialising in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) installations. The role involves installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing solar PV systems (residential and/or commercial), ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Install, wire, and connect solar PV modules, inverters, battery storage, monitoring systems and related equipment.
Carry out DC stringing, inverter mounting, electrical connections to consumer units/grid, ensuring correct orientation, tilt & alignment.
Commissioning and testing of installations (including performance testing, safety checks, insulation, earthing).
Inspect and certify completed installations in accordance with IET Wiring Regulations, MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme), and other relevant standards.
Carry out preventative maintenance, diagnostics and fault resolution on PV systems.
Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring schematics, site plans.
Maintain accurate records - test sheets, job reports, commissioning documentation, handover packs.
Liaise with customers, site managers, local authorities and utility companies as required.
Ensure safe working practices; carry out work at height, correct use of PPE, risk assessments.
Assist in site surveys to assess feasibility: roof load, orientation, shading, structural support and access.
Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Qualified Electrician with Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification or equivalent
Hold current wiring regulations certificate (e.g. 18th Edition of BS7671 or equivalent)
Certification in Solar PV installation (e.g. Level 3 Award in the Installation & Maintenance of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems or equivalent)
Inspection & Testing qualification (e.g. certificate in inspection and testing of electrical installations)
Experience in installing and commissioning PV systems (domestic or commercial), including wiring, inverter work, DC/AC side, battery storage if applicable
Ability to read electrical drawings and follow technical instructions
Full UK driving licence
Membership or registration with competent person / certification schemes is desirable
Strong Health & Safety awareness, including working at height and safe isolation practices
