Role: SOS Caseworker (SOS Project – Ending Gang Violence and Exploitation)

Our client, a charity which helps people held back by poverty, exploitation, addiction, mental health problems, caught up in crime or a combination of these and other issues is looking for an SOS Caseworker join their team
Synopsis of Duties
Providing young person-centred holistic support in line with the service delivery model and as part of a flexible multi-agency team
Conduct robust risk assessments and strengths-based needs assessments, with safeguarding as the priority, ensuring that the most appropriate intervention is offered and risks are managed and escalated appropriately.
To ensure that all young people work towards an agreed support plan which is regularly reviewed and adapted to ensure that they meet their individual needs and goals
To build effective and engaging relationships with young people involved in or at risk of being involved in the criminal justice system and improving their life chances.
To build links with agencies providing services to the client group, to be aware of referral routes and to actively promote good partnerships and effective joint working. This will include offering local support to clients to engage in positive activity within the community (i.e. boxing, football etc.)
To participate in team meetings, professional meetings (such as strategy meetings and child protection conferences), presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
To develop and maintain relationships with referral agencies, including police, Youth Offending Teams, Integrated Offender Management, Prison / Young Offender Institutions and local authorities, ensuring a steady flow of appropriate referrals onto the scheme.
To liaise closely with other teams with reference to referrals, avoiding duplication.
Identify any other needs of the young person / family members and refer into appropriate services / co-ordinate support as required.
To develop and maintain relationships with regional agencies, including police and social services, in areas where identified county lines activity is taking place.
To deliver educational sessions and workshops within schools, alternative provisions, etc., for both staff and students around violence and exploitation and related topics.
To deliver a holistic support service working independently or with colleagues as the situation dictates; providing a practical service that will include social support, housing support, accompanying to appointments, education, training and employment options, benefits work, debt advice, assistance obtaining furniture, liaising with utilities, appearing in court, DIY work and cleaning.
To close cases efficiently and positively, identifying a survival plan for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for on-going support and agencies that can be used if serious problems develop in the future.
To promote the value of lifestyle changes to the client group.
To assist with providing monitoring information and the evaluation of the project.
Recording case information fully, accurately and professionally
Engage young people through detached work on identified estates, youth centres, etc., in partnership with targeted youth support and other community based services.
Demonstrate a commitment to your ongoing learning and personal development by undertaking additional training that is relevant to your role and the needs of the service.
Working flexibly within the community and within identified office spaces within London (opportunities for home working will be minimal within this role).
Carry out any other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post and working flexibly to meet the demands of this service Essential Requirements:
Relevant qualification at Level 3 or above in youth work, social work, social sciences, education or another relevant field or demonstrable equivalent experience
Experience of working with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults and delivering interventions that have had a positive impact
Understanding of the issues faced by young people such as exploitation, victimisation, offending, school exclusion, unemployment, trauma
Experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and the ability to assess client’s needs
Experience of managing complex safeguarding issues with children, young people and adults who are at risk of violence or exploitation whilst working alone
Experience of supporting children, young people, vulnerable adults within the context of complex multiagency professional networks
