Job Description
Sous Chef
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £41,630 per annum
We are recruiting for an experienced Sous Chef to join a professional catering operation in Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled chef with strong leadership abilities who is passionate about delivering exceptional food across a varied catering operation, including fine dining, conferences, formal events and student dining.
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the kitchen, ensuring consistently high standards of food quality, food safety and service while supporting the development of the kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities

Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day management of the kitchen, taking full responsibility in their absence.

Lead, supervise and develop the kitchen team, delegating tasks, delivering training and supporting recruitment and performance management.
*
Ensure high standards of food preparation, presentation, food safety and stock control across all catering operations.
*
Assist with menu development, food ordering, cost control and maintaining accurate kitchen systems and documentation.
*
Work closely with Front of House teams to ensure excellent communication and a seamless catering service.
The Ideal Candidate
*
Has previous experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar senior kitchen position within a high-quality catering environment.
*
Is confident working across all sections of the kitchen and has a genuine passion for producing exceptional food.
*
Demonstrates strong leadership, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop others.
*
Has good commercial awareness with experience of stock management, cost control and maintaining food safety standards.
*
Is confident using computer-based systems and is flexible to work five days out of seven, including evenings and weekends as required.
In return, you will receive a salary of £41,630 per annum, 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional time off provided during quieter periods to balance operational demands.
