Key Responsibilities:
Provide tailored support to pupils with ASD and behavioural needs, both in class and on a 1:1 or small group basis.
Assist the class teacher in the planning and delivery of lessons and behaviour management strategies.
Implement individual education plans (IEPs), communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton), and behaviour support plans.
Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
Monitor and record students' progress, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.
Work closely with therapists, SENCOs, and parents/carers to ensure a holistic approach to support.
Assist with personal care where required (training provided).
Essential Requirements:
Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or challenging behaviour.
A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to managing behaviour and emotional regulation.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work flexibly under the direction of the class teacher and SEN staff.
Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training will be provided).
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
Team Teach / Positive Handling training.
Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or TEACCH framework.
Experience in an SEN school or alternative provision
