Special Needs Teacher
Prospero Teaching are proud to be supporting a specialist school in Southampton in recruiting a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teacher to join their team.
This welcoming and well-resourced school caters for children and young people aged 716 with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and associated learning difficulties. The staff team work collaboratively to create a nurturing and structured environment where every pupil can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
About the Role:
The school is seeking a passionate Special Needs Teacher to plan and deliver tailored lessons that meet the individual needs of each learner. You will work closely with a team of experienced Teaching Assistants, Therapists, and Pastoral Leads to create a positive, engaging, and therapeutic learning environment.
The role involves differentiating learning, managing behaviour using positive reinforcement strategies, and supporting pupils in developing key life and social skills alongside their academic progress.

Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS) with experience in SEND or mainstream settings
Teachers confident in working with pupils with Autism, SEMH, or complex needs
Candidates who are adaptable, patient, and committed to inclusive education
Individuals who understand the importance of trauma-informed practice and personalised learning
Those with a passion for helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential
Contract Details:
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Position: Special Needs Teacher
Start Date: October 2025 / ASAP
Contract Type: Permanent (or long-term with potential to become permanent)
Working Hours: 8:30am 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)
Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (depending on experience)
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
Experience teaching pupils with SEND, SEMH, or Autism
Understanding of differentiation and behaviour management strategies
Up-to-date Safeguarding Training (or willing to complete)
Enhanced Child DBS (on the Update Service or willing to apply)
Two professional, child-related references
