The purpose of the role is to support the laboratory research programme as a Buyer specialising in bioscience procurement at the AZ Discovery Centre Campus. The Buyer is responsible for enhancing operational effectiveness, providing and maintaining the infrastructure processes, while looking for ways to improve customer service for clients utilising lean working principles.

Description
Procurement of specialist products using AstraZeneca's COUPA platform
Ensuring compliance of activities performed in adherence with defined schedules and quality within a specified area. Act and report on deviations
Act as a key point of contact for all research staff to deal with queries pertaining to all stages of the procurement process
Reviewing of Supplier Health reports; working with the Director of Compliance and Welfare
Communicate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements
Creation, maintenance and updating relevant documentation in support of service delivery, compliance and training
Report on KPIs, metrics, SLAs and weekly tasks as required and outlined in standard work
Liaise with AZ procurement and external suppliers to leverage best price
Procurement of specialist products using AZ's COUPA platform
Broad understanding of products and keeping up to date with external benchmarks
Regular reviews with customers to ensure the service is optimal, accurate and efficient
Resolve or escalate complex queries from stakeholders or vendors relating to the procurement process
Foster an efficient, friendly and supportive team atmosphere
To carry out all support activities in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines, GLS & local agreements
Proactively identify and support operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements
Support the purchasing of capital equipment and consumables for new and existing facilities across sites in the UK and US
Coordinating technical activities and communicating with customers, Avantor colleagues and third parties to ensure a professional level of service is provided
Work with colleagues within and outside the team in a flexible and collaborative manner
Actively seek and report back on any cost savings/ cost avoidances that could be found during the procurement process
Adheres to Health and Safety regulations and follows Avantor Work Instructions
Works proactively with manager to ensure all training activities are completed and signed off in a timely manner
Profile
A successful Specialist Buyer - In Vivo should have:
High level attention to detail, self-motivated and dependable
Enhanced Technical Requirements: sensitivity to and understanding of In Vivo bioscience activities is essential
Knowledge and understanding of operating and reporting within a regulated environment
Notification of imports to DEFRA/border agency
Experience working with SHE policies and procedures
Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
Outstanding communication skills on all levels
Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
An understanding of how the team interacts internally and externally within the organisation and how they contribute to the objectives of the business
To be flexible in order to deliver the service required to our customers
Monitor/forecast lead times to ensure availability is maintained on site(s), including maintaining critical communication between suppliers and end users
End to end oversight, tracking order(s) through to delivery/receipt required
Good problem-solving capability and confidence to react promptly to deliver the best service possible
Good planning, organisational and analytical skills
Good time-management skills, ability to be flexible and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Able to partner with other teams and suppliers and deliver results in a matrix environment, managing multiple internal and external partners and stakeholders
Able to adapt emerging best practices and industry innovations
Exceptionally high level of commitment to the success of individuals and overall projects and service provision
Proficient in data capture, analysis and reporting using various IT systems
Experience working with procurement systems or in a procurement role previously is essential
