Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or support worker with a passion for working with children with additional needs?
We're currently working to support a specialist school that provides high-quality education and care for pupils with a broad and complex range of learning needs, including moderate to profound learning difficulties, autism, communication needs, physical and mobility challenges, and associated behavioural difficulties.
About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play a key part in supporting both learning and care, working closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored educational programmes and ensure each child can thrive.
This is a hands-on role that requires patience, compassion, and a calm, proactive approach to managing behaviour and supporting emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to pupils, many of whom have complex learning and medical needs
- Assist with personal care, physical support, and emotional wellbeing
- Help implement EHCPs, IEPs and behaviour support plans
- Promote independence and inclusion at every opportunity
- Assist with preparation of learning materials and specialist resources
- Support pupils with one-to-one and small group interventions
- Help manage challenging behaviour in line with school policies
What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs
- A background in education, care, health or youth support (school-based or community settings)
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient personality
- Strong communication skills - verbal and non-verbal
- Any relevant training (e.g., Moving & Handling, Team Teach, Makaton, Autism Awareness) - beneficial but not essential
