Are you a highly skilled Specialist Teaching Assistant ready to support students with Complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? The Role: Dedicated Support for Complex Needs
We are looking for an experienced and resilient TA to provide intensive, targeted support to students across the school who have complex and challenging needs, including significant SEMH difficulties, Autism (ASC), and associated learning barriers.
What You Will Do:
Intensive 1:1 Support: Provide personalised academic, social, and emotional support to students, often on a one-to-one basis, following their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Behaviour Intervention: Implement effective, positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies. You will need a calm, therapeutic approach to handle challenging situations.
Curriculum Adaptation: Assist the class teacher in adapting learning materials and activities to ensure accessibility and engagement for students with significant barriers.
Record Keeping: Monitor and record student progress, behaviour incidents, and interventions accurately, contributing to review meetings and assessments.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with the SENCO, Pastoral Team, and external specialists (e.g., therapists, educational psychologists).
Essential Skills & Experience
This specialist role requires a high level of expertise, patience, and professional resilience.
Proven Experience: Significant experience working with children or young people with complex needs, particularly those with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
De-escalation: Training and proven ability in safe behaviour intervention and crisis de-escalation (e.g., Team Teach or similar).
Understanding of SEND: Excellent knowledge of various SEND conditions and the strategies required to support pupils successfully within a school environment.
Communication: Strong ability to communicate effectively and build professional, trusting relationships with pupils who are often vulnerable.
