Speech and Language Teaching Assistant
Location: Merton, Southwest London
Contract: Full-time, fixed-term (January 2026 - July 2026, with potential extension)
Start date: January 2026
A large, inclusive secondary school in Merton is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to join their supportive SEND department from January 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to make a real difference to students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for students with identified speech and language difficulties
Work closely with the SENCO and external Speech & Language Therapists to deliver planned interventions
Support classroom teachers in adapting learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs
Encourage participation, confidence and progress in both academic and social development
Maintain accurate records of progress and contribute to review meetings
Promote an inclusive environment and ensure all pupils have access to the curriculumRequirements
Experience supporting students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs or other SEND
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people
Empathetic, patient and committed to helping students achieve their potential
Previous experience in a school or educational setting preferred
Graduate or experienced SEN Teaching Assistants welcome to applyBenefits
