Job Description

Are you a experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking for your next role? Or a senior Speech and Language Therapist looking for a change of pace? We are excited to offer an opportunity for a part-time Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our established and supportive adult and older adult inpatient mental health services at the Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury, providing specialist SLT input across four adult inpatient wards. This is a varied, challenging, and rewarding role within modern facilities, working as part of a diverse and highly supportive multi‑disciplinary team (MDT). You will play a key role in delivering and developing high‑quality Speech and Language Therapy provision for adults with complex mental health and communication needs. Please note this role is part-time working 30 hours per week. Advert As the Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist, you will: * Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based assessment and intervention for adults and older adults in an inpatient mental health setting * Manage a specialist caseload across four adult wards, working with individuals presenting with complex mental health needs, swallowing difficulties and communication differences * Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, diagnosis, care planning, and intervention * Offer specialist SLT advice to colleagues within the MDT to support patient care and management * Actively participate in MDT meetings, including clinical team meetings and Care and Treatment Reviews (CTR) * Develop, implement, and evaluate individual and group‑based intervention programmes * Produce high‑quality specialist reports reflecting advanced clinical knowledge and clinical reasoning The ability to travel independently between sites within the Trust is essential for this role. Working knowledge of Autism. Specific knowledge of dysphagia and communication needs for people with complex needs including, autistic spectrum disorder, mental health difficulties, challenging behaviour. Demonstrates well established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the specialist client groups. Demonstrates in depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions. * Qualified Speech and Language Therapist. Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT). Registered member of Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) * Evidence based, reflective practice and clinical reasoning skills in assessment and treatment. Formulating policies/procedures/standards. Service development work. Delegation Skills Supervision of Registered & non-Registered staff Staff appraisal & development work Organizing project work Effective communicator with clients, professionals and staff Leadership skills Teamwork skills Time management skills Organisational skills for own & others workload I.T. skills Supervising others as part of the process * Significant clinical experience as a registered SLT Evidence of in-depth experience in relevant specialist clinical area Completed RCSLT NQP competencies. Experience in communication assessments and interventions Experience in dysphagia assessments and interventions. * Adaptability Assertiveness Initiative Reliability Sensitivity Reflective in approach Able to prioritise workload – clinical and non-clinical Excellent interpersonal skills Able to manage emotional consequences of working with patients with a range of communication needs Demonstrates the ability to reflect on practice with peers/clinical supervisor Demonstrates adequate flexibility to meet the demands of an unpredictable workload Desirable criteria * Teaching skills Budget management * Experience of Psychoeducational group work Experience of working with autistic people Experience of working with autistic adults Familiarity with Social Communication/ Zones of Regulation resources Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health services, Experience of multi-disciplinary working.
