What strategies have you found most effective in gently encouraging children who may be hesitant or struggle with participation in physical activities?
Teacher Active is seeking passionate and experienced Sports Coaches to work with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Southampton and the surrounding areas. As a Sports Coach in this role, you will lead engaging and inclusive physical activity sessions, while providing personalised support tailored to each student’s needs. You’ll be working with individuals with a range of SEND, including autism (ASD), social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), severe and profound learning difficulties (SLD/PMLD), emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), and ADHD.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Sports Coaches who are energetic, proactive, and committed to promoting inclusion through sport. You’ll be working within SEND provisions and alternative education settings that understand the powerful role sport can play in supporting emotional, social, and behavioural development.

The successful Sports Coach LSA will have:
Proven experience delivering sports or physical activity sessions in SEND or alternative education settings
Confidence supporting children both 1:1 and in small groups, with the ability to adapt activities to suit individual needs
Strong group management skills, creating a positive and structured environment during sports sessions
A patient, caring, and encouraging approach to working with children who may face additional social, emotional, or behavioural challenges
