Job Description

Job Title: STE02 Examiner / Trainer (Structures Examination) Location: East London Employment Type: Permanent Salary: Competitive, based on experience About the Role: We are seeking a qualified STE02 Examiner / Trainer to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the UK’s railway infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of structures, from historic Victorian-era bridges to modern constructions, while mentoring the next generation of examiners and engineers. Key Responsibilities: * Conduct thorough examinations of railway structures (e.g., bridges, tunnels, culverts) in line with Network Rail standards (NR/L2/CIV/1000). * Review examination results, identify defects, and recommend appropriate actions to maintain structural safety. * Deliver training and mentorship to trainee examiners, ensuring competency in line with STE competencies (STE2, STE4-7). * Prepare detailed reports and documentation, including Urgent Defect notifications where required. * Stay updated on industry standards, materials (e.g., wrought iron, masonry), and assessment techniques. * Support the implementation of the Skills Assessment Scheme, including renewal assessments every three years. Essential Requirements: * Degree or HNC/HND in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent). * Network Rail STE2 Competence qualification (or working towards it). * Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification. * Substantial experience in structures/civil engineering, particularly within rail. * Sound knowledge of structures assessment, safety management systems, and risk assessment. * Working towards professional membership (ICE, IStructE) – EngTech, IEng, or CEng. Desirable Skills: * Experience with non-standard materials (e.g., cast iron, timber) and heritage structures. * Familiarity with specialist access methods (e.g., rope access, diving, CCTV). * Training/mentorship experience in a rail environment.
