Assessing Social Worker - Kinship Care Team | Stockport Council Location: Stockport Contract: Full-time, Permanent Pay Rate: Competitive, in line with local authority rates About the Role Stockport Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to join our Kinship Care Team. This role is ideal for a practitioner passionate about supporting children in family-based care arrangements and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. As an Assessing Social Worker, you will complete Form K and Special Guardianship Order (SGO) Assessments, including Regulation 24 arrangements, where you will support and supervise carers. You will work closely with families, children, and partner agencies to ensure safe, high-quality care and compliance with statutory requirements. Key Responsibilities Undertake Form K and SGO assessments, ensuring child-centred and evidence-based practice. Support and supervise Regulation 24 carers as part of your assessment and monitoring duties. Manage a caseload of approximately 5 court-directed assessments, adhering to court filing deadlines. Present assessments and recommendations to Stockport Fostering Panel. Participate in duty rota, including Regulation 24 assessments, Pre-Proceedings (PLO), and Court-Directed Viability Assessments (VAs). Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, maintaining statutory compliance and safeguarding children effectively. Maintain accurate case records and ensure timely reporting. Essential Requirements Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England. Proven experience in child protection, kinship care, or fostering assessments. Knowledge of Special Guardianship Orders, Form K assessments, and Regulation 24 processes. Court experience, including preparing reports and meeting court deadlines. Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and operate within a multi-agency team environment. Why Join Stockport Council?
