Structural Engineer – Temporary Works - Façade Remediation About Our Client Our client is a leading principal contractor specialising in cladding remediation and façade refurbishment, delivering high-quality, multi-million-pound projects across Great Britain. Role Overview Our client is seeking a Structural Engineer – Temporary Works to provide specialist engineering expertise in wind loading calculations, temporary works design, assessment, and approval. The role ensures all temporary structures are safe, compliant, and fully coordinated throughout high-profile recladding and façade remediation projects. The engineer will calculate wind loads, assess scaffold loads, review hoarding designs, and evaluate temporary access systems, with particular attention to interaction with existing buildings and compliance with CDM 2015 regulations. This role also contributes to fostering continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and professional development within the design team, while maintaining the Golden Thread of Information across all projects. Key Responsibilities Temporary Works Design & Assessment * Lead temporary works design verification and approval, ensuring compliance with BS 5975:2019, PAS 8812:2016, and other relevant standards. * Champion the Golden Thread of Information, ensuring comprehensive digital documentation in line with the Building Safety Act. * Review scaffold loads and assess structural effects on existing buildings, including superstructure, substructure, and podium roofs. * Design load distribution systems, including spreaders and base plates, to safely support scaffolds and construction hoists. * Review and approve hoarding and welfare structures in compliance with British Standards and wind loading regulations. * Perform wind load calculations using Eurocodes (BS EN 1991-1-4), including complex analysis for architectural projections and building recesses. * Generate and verify TG20:21 compliance sheets, ensuring scaffold configurations meet Work at Height Regulations 2005. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management * Assess and document designer’s risk in accordance with CDM 2015, preparing detailed risk assessments and mitigation strategies. * Prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications for temporary works, maintaining comprehensive records for audits and inspections. * Ensure all designs meet British Standards, Building Regulations, Building Safety Act requirements, and HSE guidance. * Provide on-site technical support during installation, inspection, and removal of temporary works. Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management * Facilitate knowledge sharing, standardisation, and flexibility for project-specific requirements within the design team. * Liaise with clients, consultants, architects, manufacturers, and other stakeholders to deliver efficient and compliant designs. * Coordinate with internal departments, including commercial, H&S, contracts, and procurement, to improve processes and project quality. * Chair and participate in design coordination meetings related to temporary works and overall project delivery. * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of British and European standards, Building Regulations, and safety requirements, supporting continuous professional development for self and team members. Additional Information * Hours: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm * Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 per year, dependent on experience * Travel: This role covers multiple regions including North and South London, Southern region (Southampton, Portsmouth, Basingstoke, etc.) and Midlands (Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester, etc.).
