Student Support OfficerDepartment: Academic Services Location: Sunderland Campus Position Type: Permanent Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week Working Pattern: Full‑time, 5 days per week. Working days may vary in line with operational requirements. Working with experienced academics, established professionals, and industry partners, we ensure our programmes remain relevant, supportive, and high‑quality.Job PurposeThe Student Support Officer will deliver high‑quality administrative and operational support to students across the campus. The role involves responding to student enquiries, supporting enrolment and registration processes, verifying documentation, and assisting with timetable and general administrative matters.This is primarily an office‑based role requiring professionalism, accuracy, and a strong customer‑service approach.Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Communication• Respond promptly and professionally to student emails. • Handle incoming and outgoing student telephone enquiries. • Provide accurate guidance on enrolment, registration, academic processes, and general campus queries. • Ensure all interactions are logged and tracked in accordance with internal procedures.Registration & Enrolment Support• Check and verify student registration and re‑enrolment status. • Support students in completing enrolment within required deadlines. • Resolve registration‑related queries, liaising with partner universities when required. • Escalate complex cases to senior staff as appropriate.ID Verification & Compliance• Conduct ID checks in line with institutional and regulatory requirements. • Ensure documentation is verified, recorded, and stored correctly. • Support compliance processes relating to onboarding and student records.Timetable & Academic Queries• Respond to timetable queries and direct students appropriately. • Liaise with timetabling and academic teams to resolve scheduling or allocation issues. • Provide guidance on class allocations and delivery arrangements.General Administrative Support• Handle day‑to‑day student administrative queries. • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date student records. • Support attendance monitoring processes as required. • Assist during peak operational periods such as enrolment, induction, examinations, and assessments.Person SpecificationEssential• Experience in an administrative or student‑facing role. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to manage high volumes of emails and calls professionally. • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail. • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Confident using IT systems, including Microsoft Office. • Flexible and able to adapt to changing operational requirements.Desirable• Experience within Higher Education or Further Education. • Familiarity with student record systems (e.g., EBS, eVision or similar). • Understanding of enrolment, registration, and compliance processes.Key Skills & Attributes• Professional and approachable manner. • Strong problem‑solving ability. • High level of accuracy. • Ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment. • Team‑oriented but able to work independently
