A leading civil engineering contractor delivering complex infrastructure schemes across the UK is seeking a Sub Agent for a major highways project in Cumbria. This permanent role will take ownership of planning, programming and delivery for defined sections of work, ensuring design, temporary works and subcontractor activities are coordinated into safe, efficient, buildable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate highways and civil engineering works in line with programme, quality and safety requirements.
Develop and maintain short-term programmes and lookaheads (1-6 weeks), aligning labour, plant and materials with the overall project schedule.
Plan, brief and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring scope, interfaces, resources and constraints are clearly defined and monitored.
Track progress against programme, identify variances, and provide accurate productivity, cost and milestone forecasts.
Work with Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure temporary works and design intent are fully integrated into construction methodology.
Ensure permits, RAMS, ITPs and assurance processes are in place before works commence, and lead readiness reviews for upcoming activities.
Review drawings, specifications and temporary works designs to ensure constructability and compliance.
Coordinate between design, planning and site delivery teams to resolve technical and logistical constraints.
Promote safe working practices, innovation and continuous improvement across the section.
Mentor Section Engineers and Site Engineers, providing clear direction on planning, delivery and technical issues.
Requirements
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Proven experience as a Sub Agent or Section Engineer on highways or major civil engineering schemes.
Strong experience in planning, short-term programming, lookaheads and subcontractor coordination.
Solid understanding of temporary works principles and design coordination.
Working knowledge of BS 5975, CDM Regulations and relevant engineering standards.
Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrable leadership, forecasting and mentoring capability.
