As demand for smarter and more robust infrastructure grows, we’re looking for a Substation Protection Engineer to join our expanding Power team. If you’ve got experience in substations, high-voltage systems, or electrical protection design, and you’re ready to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you. About Morson Projects We’re a long-standing, award-winning engineering consultancy delivering multi-disciplinary projects across the UK. Our Power team works at the heart of the transmission and distribution network - designing and delivering solutions that keep the lights on and the grid stable. What You’ll Be Doing As a Substation Protection Engineer, you’ll be designing and developing protection and control systems that are critical to the safe and reliable operation of the UK's high-voltage infrastructure. You’ll work on major projects, collaborating with engineers, suppliers, and client teams to deliver compliant, technically sound solutions. Here’s what your day-to-day could look like: Producing detailed protection and control designs for high-voltage substations (typically 132kV and above). Creating single-line diagrams (SLDs), key line diagrams (KLDs), schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings. Designing transformer, feeder, busbar, and line protection schemes. Ensuring compliance with National Grid Technical Specifications (NGTS) and DNO standards. Developing protection philosophies and contributing to fault analysis and coordination studies. Supporting the integration of IEC 61850, SCADA, and substation automation systems. Performing design assurance checks, supporting testing, and engaging in FAT/SAT activities when required. Collaborating with project teams to deliver design packages on time and to high technical standards. Whether you’re at the start of your high-voltage journey or have years of substation experience under your belt, this role will give you access to some of the most exciting and complex projects in the industry. What We’re Looking For This role is ideal for someone who’s already working in the protection space and is looking to build deeper technical knowledge on high-profile infrastructure projects. We’d love to hear from you if you have: Experience in substation protection and control design (132kV+ is ideal). A strong understanding of electrical protection schemes, relay settings, and HV network standards. Knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA, or automation systems (not essential, but a bonus). A background in electrical design, fault analysis, or HV power engineering. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to solving engineering challenges. Whether you're working for a DNO, contractor, or consultancy - we want engineers who are passionate about designing systems that keep the grid secure. Why Join Morson Projects? Working at Morson means being part of a team that values technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation. Here’s what you can expect: Opportunities to work on industry-defining projects A team of experienced engineers who’ll support your learning and development Support toward professional registration or chartership Flexible/hybrid working where possible Competitive salary and benefits A culture that recognises great work and supports long-term career growth Apply Now If you’re ready to bring your substation, HV, or protection design experience to a team that values your expertise and gives you space to grow - let’s talk.
