Systems Engineer – Directed Energy Weapons
I’m working on a genuinely unique opportunity for a talented Systems Engineer to join a high-impact, high-visibility programme delivering the UK’s next generation Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW). If you’re a Systems Engineer who thrives in fast-paced, agile environments and wants to be involved in one of the most high profiles projects in the UK defence area.
This systems engineer role will be joining a dedicated team that focuses on Laser or optical systems and has direct customer engagement, real tech challenges, and the chance to get stuck into everything from early requirements through to delivery and trials. It’s hands-on, delivery-focused work in a secure environment, ideal for someone who’s done the early-stage design grind and wants to see capability come to life.
The successful Systems Engineer will be:
Working across the full lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, V&V, certification in a laser or optical systems environment.
Supporting rapid system development and integration of new tech (lasers, optics, sensors)
Acting as the glue between users, design authorities, and engineering teams
Solving complex problems with pace and precision
Collaborating in a tight-knit, multi-disciplinary engineering team
To secure this Systems engineer role, in the cutting-edge Laser or Optical environment, you need:
Strong systems engineering experience – ideally in defence or complex systems
Exposure to tools like DOORS, Rhapsody etc.
Good understanding of requirements flowdown and functional design
Confident communicator with a delivery-first mindset
Any exposure to laser or optical systems is a bonus
British Citizen or UK dual-national status (BPSS minimum)
