Monarch Education is seeking a dedicated and qualified Science Teacher to join a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Northampton on a full-time, long-term basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging, well-structured Science lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, including GCSE and A-Level. You will play a vital role in inspiring students to develop their scientific curiosity, skills, and confidence.
Key Responsibilities of a Science Teacher
Teaching and Learning:
Design and deliver high-quality Science lessons that motivate and challenge students across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
Develop engaging schemes of work and lesson plans tailored to diverse abilities and learning styles.
Foster a classroom environment that encourages active participation, experimentation, and critical thinking.
Incorporate a variety of teaching strategies, including practical experiments, digital resources, and real-world applications.
Use diverse assessment methods to monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support ongoing improvement.
Prepare students effectively for GCSE and A-Level examinations, ensuring they acquire necessary knowledge and skills.Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
Set clear expectations for behaviour and academic standards.
Use effective behaviour management techniques to promote focus, respect, and collaborative learning.
Ensure health and safety protocols are rigorously followed, especially during practical experiments.Curriculum Development:
Collaborate with colleagues to review and enhance the Science curriculum, ensuring it remains current, relevant, and challenging.
Contribute to the development of resources, assessments, and intervention strategies to support student achievement.
Support school-wide initiatives to promote scientific literacy and interest in STEM subjects.Student Welfare and Support:
Provide pastoral support to help students develop confidence and resilience in Science.
Recognise individual learning needs and adapt teaching approaches accordingly, working with support staff and parents as needed.
Encourage participation in extracurricular activities such as science clubs, competitions, or workshops to broaden students' scientific experience.Collaboration and Professional Growth:
Engage actively in departmental meetings, sharing best practices and innovative teaching ideas.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve teaching strategies and student outcomes.
Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with curriculum developments and new teaching methodologies.
Key Skills and Qualifications
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential.
Degree in Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
Proven experience teaching Science at KS3, KS4, and KS5, with a strong understanding of curriculum requirements.
Ability to differentiate lessons to support diverse learners and assess progress effectively.
Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
Passionate about Science and capable of inspiring student interest and curiosity.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to team working.
