Prospero Teaching is working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school in Taunton to recruit a passionate and committed Teacher of English for a maternity cover position starting in January 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a thriving English department that has recently celebrated its best-ever GCSE results, with outcomes above the national average in both Language and Literature. The team is collaborative, forward-thinking, and dedicated to delivering a rich, inclusive curriculum that promotes high standards of literacy and student engagement.
About the Role
Teach English across KS3 and KS4, with mixed ability groups in Years 7-9 and set groups in Years 10-11.
Contribute to curriculum development and help shape the department's 5-year plan.
Support students through engaging lessons, targeted interventions, and extra-curricular activities such as writing competitions, author visits, and creative clubs.
Promote reading for pleasure and help develop students' cultural capital.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a strong classroom practitioner who:
Holds QTS and a relevant degree.
Has experience teaching English in a mainstream secondary setting.
Is passionate about literacy and committed to improving outcomes for all learners, including disadvantaged and SEN students.
Is keen to get involved in the wider life of the school, including pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor.Whether you're an experienced teacher or an ECT with the potential to become outstanding, we'd love to hear from you.
