Curriculum Delivery
Teach music across KS3–KS4 (ages 11–16), and potentially KS5 (A-level, ages 16–18).
Deliver lessons on music theory, performance, composition, and appreciation.
Prepare students for GCSE and A-level Music exams (if applicable).
Practical and Extra-Curricular Activities
Lead school ensembles (choir, orchestra, bands).
Organise and direct concerts, productions, or musicals.
Offer instrumental tuition (or coordinate with peripatetic teachers).
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
Mark and assess students’ work in line with national standards.
Provide feedback and track progress.
Pastoral and Professional Duties
Act as a form tutor (in many cases).
Participate in parent evenings, school meetings, and CPD (continuing professional development).
Classroom Management and Inclusion
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom.
Differentiate instruction for a diverse student body.
Qualifications and Requirements
UK-recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Degree in Music or a related field.
Experience or training in teaching music at secondary level.
Strong keyboard or instrumental skills are often highly desirable.
Desirable Skills
Creativity and passion for music education.
Strong communication and behaviour management.
Familiarity with UK exam boards (e.g. Edexcel, AQA)
