Role Overview – Year 1: Classroom Experience
As a successful Future Teacher, you'll take on the role of a Cover Supervisor within a secondary school in the Cambridge area. Your responsibilities will include stepping in during short-term teacher absences, ensuring continuity in student learning by overseeing tasks set by the teacher. While there's no active teaching, marking, or planning required at this stage, you'll provide classroom supervision, deliver a high-quality learning experience, and gain valuable insights into the teaching profession.
Year 2: Initial Teacher Training (ITT) with QTS
Following a successful first year in the programme, you’ll progress into the ITT year, during which you’ll undertake formal teacher training. This second year is structured to allow you to:
Work towards gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Earn while you train, continuing your placement at the same school or a partner school
Follow a structured curriculum aligned with Department for Education (DfE) standards
Be mentored by experienced educators and supported by training providers
Receive regular observations, feedback, and developmental support
Attend scheduled study days and complete written assignments (as part of your PGCE if applicable)
Develop your own lesson planning, delivery, and assessment practice
This hands-on approach allows you to grow your confidence in the classroom and become a fully qualified teacher by the end of the academic year.
