Job Description

Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support – Complex Care Needs) Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with complex care needs, including a tracheostomy, within a secondary partnership school setting. Key Responsibilities: Provide high-quality personal and educational support to a pupil with complex medical needs during the school day Work closely with the class teacher and wider staff to facilitate the pupil's access to learning Deliver care routines as required, including suctioning and monitoring of the tracheostomy Support with mobility, communication, and personal care as necessary Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment at all times Maintain effective communication with healthcare professionals, parents/carers, and school staff Essential Requirements: Up-to-date and valid training in tracheostomy care and emergency procedures Experience supporting children or young people with medical or complex needs in an educational or healthcare setting A calm, patient, and empathetic approach Excellent teamwork and communication skills Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children Desirable: Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3) Additional training in manual handling and PEG feeding Experience working in a secondary school environment This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a young person’s life, helping them to access education in a safe and supportive environment.
